4th Annual Rain Barrel Contest

Cherish Every Drop
The Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA), Lehigh Acres Senior Center, and Lehigh Community Services are running the 4th Annual Lehigh Acres Rain Barrel Painting Contest.
The program provides art therapy for our local seniors, and the proceeds will be used to help our seniors that are struggling to pay their water utility bills. This contest also promotes water conservation.
This year’s theme was “Cherish Every Drop”.

Media Coverage
Courtesy of WINK News, they are reporting on this story and covering the contest. Mariaregina Mendoza visited the contest at the senior center to report the story, see the painters paint their barrels, and talk to FGUA’s Customer Service Representative, Donna Lizotte.
Donna Lizotte told reporter Mariaregina Mendoza “I work with a lot of seniors, and I listen to their stories and their struggles. And so we were looking at ways that we could help them through that hardship. And one day, I just happened to be at our water treatment plant. We happened to have these barrels on hand, and thought of an idea: what if we did something with these barrels to help raise money?”
Mariaregina Mendoza did a great job covering the event and showing how our community supports each other, especially our seniors in need of help.
