Remembering Commissioner Greenwell

Lee County Commissioners honored the life and legacy of District 5 Commissioner Mike Greenwell with a moment of silence and a unanimous vote to rename the Lee County Civic Center Complex as Mike Greenwell Regional Park.

Greenwell, a Lee County native and former Boston Red Sox player, passed away Oct. 9. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at JetBlue Park.

Click here to watch the ceremony, share memories and photos to a virtual guestbook (through Oct. 31) and find information on how to donate to Lee County 4-H in Commissioner Greenwell’s honor.

Repairs on Estero Blvd. and Lee DOT Bridges

Big news for Fort Myers Beach: Repairs to restore Estero Boulevard to pre-Ian conditions will begin in November. The Lee Board of County Commissioners has approved contracts to fix sidewalks, roadway damage and pedestrian safety features caused by Hurricane Ian in 2022. While the road was repaired to reopen, it has yet to be restored to pre-storm conditions as Lee County worked with state and federal partners to secure funding.

The County also gave the green light for the design of two bridge replacements in Harlem Heights and San Carlos Park, funded by Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) dollars, and engineering services to repair the fender system of the Sanibel Bridge Spans A & C.
